As the year 2023 started, the trend of AI boomed and flooded industries. In the world of Artificial Intelligence, tools like ChatGPT and Google Bard have a dominant position now. If by any chance you are not aware of either of them, you are living under a rock.
Soon after ChatGPT’s virality, Google Bard came and stood shoulder-to-shoulder with the former. An even more trendy question that floats in the minds of tech-savvies is, “Which is a better AI, ChatGPT or Google Bard?”
By now, you may only know bits and pieces about each of them, like Elon Musk, co-founder of ChatGPT. But it is time to clear the clouds of unclarity.
To make it easy for you and present a compressive comparison between the two, continue reading the entire article. I am sure after a good read, you will get find the answer which you have been looking for.
Before we go into comparing them both, I think it would be better to know a little bit about their origin.
ChatGPT
Developed by Elon Mush and Sam Altman-owned company, OpenAI, ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot. It was released in the open market in November 2022 and has revolutionized the AI industry since then. ChatGPT mainly became famous because of the detailed answers this AI chatbot provides.
Though ChatGPT was developed by OpenAI, it has backing from Microsoft. In 2019, Microsoft announced a partnership with OpenAI that will see Microsft invest up to $10 billion for the development of ChatGPT.
ChatGPT recently released a stable version on the 13th of February, 2023. This interactive AI chatbot is free for all to use. However, ChatGPT also has a paid model, ChatGPT Plus, which charges $20 a month. ChatGPT has been extremely successful, as its valuation currently stands at approximately $28 billion.
Google Bard
In direct competition with Microsoft-backed ChatGPT, Google announced its own AI chatbot, Google Bard. As of today, Google Bard is only available on limited access as it is yet to be released as a stable release for the public. Though, it is expected that by the end of March 2023, Google Bard will be released for public use.
Bard will be powered by Language Model for Dialogue Application (LaMDA). Google Bard is going to be a self-learning platform that will make it easy for the user.
Now that I have given you a brief introduction to both these AI models, it’s time to go ahead and see how they are different from each other.
Data
The most important thing that I consider while choosing an AI chatbot is the data that the platform has access to. Though both ChatGPT and Google bard will have tonnes of data to comb through, there is a concern regarding ChatGPT. ChatGPT only has data up to 2021 only.
The ChatGPT AI does not have any knowledge of events post-2021. Meanwhile, Google bard will have all the information regarding the latest events as well. Not only will bard have this information, as it is a self-learning AI, but Google bard will also keep learning throughout its lifespan and improving all the while.
Although ChatGPT gives more detailed answers, the limited information is a drawback when it comes to data.
Accuracy
Surely enough, having access to data is important. But, in my opinion, having accurate data is even more important. Although not tested by the general public, according to testers, Google bard is ahead of ChatGPT in this as well.
ChatGPT is prone to making errors regarding information. Moreover, as already discussed, ChatGPT only has data till 2021, so it is not aware of anything post that. This obviously gives an edge to Google bard with its plethora of data.
Access to Public
Before I explain this point further, I should give point out that Google bard has not yet been released to the general public. Therefore, all the information regarding their access and sales model is not yet known. Having said that, both ChatGPT and Google bard is free to use for the general public.
ChatGPT also has a paid version, ChatGPT Plus. This paid version comes with general access to ChatGPT with faster responses and early access to newer features. This plan costs $20 per month. Recently, OpenAI announced plans to introduce a ChatGPT Professional Plus plan, though no information regarding the features or price is known right now.
Google bard, however, has not released any information regarding whether they plan to release a paid version or not. Right now, it is only available to testers.
Uses
Another important factor I consider before choosing the chatbot is identifying the need that each fulfills. Though both ChatGPT and Google bard are similar, the needs of the user dictate the choice. ChatGPT is a great option if the need is to create reports, translate language or provide ideas.
Whereas, according to reviews from testing, Google bard is a better alternative if the goal is to simplify complex information. Google bard has also been integrated into google’s own search engine, which helps in accurate search results. If you are looking to find some ideas for, say, organizing a party, then Google bard is the way to go.
In The End
In the past few years, our world has changed a lot. The constant development of technology and advancements in the field of Artificial Intelligence has grown rapidly, and it is showing no signs of slowing down. With these advancements, day-to-day tasks are getting easier than ever.
Even something so simple as turning off lights can be done with just either a voice command or a simple command on your smartphone. The rise in AI chatbots has also increased. Previously, there were just a few things that you could do with that.
But, nowadays, with good chatbots, it is hard to recognize if you are talking to an actual human or not. ChatGPT and the upcoming Google bard are prime examples of these.
Though they are very similar and aim to fulfill the same needs of the user, there are some differences between them. Hopefully, with this article, you’ll get a better idea of which one to choose.
